Woke up this morning to a news report that the stock market is closed because it’s Good Friday. In the midst of all the news of how our culture is post-Christian and falling rapidly away from its Judeo-Christian values, I found this news tidbit encouraging.

Bob kauflin: what is a successful Xian musician?

They don’t all look the same. You can be successful and not know anyone famous.

Successful Xian muscians grow the talents and abilities they’ve been given.

You don’t have to be as good as Lincoln brewster to be better than you are now.

Success is not being someone else. Be the best ‘C’ drummer you can be.

Be faithful with the gifts you’ve been given. Are you inestimg your two talents or are you waiting for someone to tell you you have 5 talents.

Successful Xian muscians seek to please an audience of one.

True success cannot be measured in this life…we settle for things too low (statistics, etc.). Father won’t ask, “how many cds did you sell?” Where are your eyes directed?

How badly do we want to hear, “well done!” Jesus is the “well done” we depend upon. Am I being faithful? Am I bringing honor to the only one who deserves honor? There is no greater success for the Xian musician.

Good stuff. Bob Kaufmin is one of the main reasons I wanted to come.

On simplicity…and freedom

Luke Daugherty, fellow church-planter with Kevin Larson, recently posted some principles of simplicity gleaned from Richard Foster’s Celebration of Discipline. I love all of them. This one caught my eye, though:

Reject anything that is producing an addiction in you. Wow…something immediately popped into my head. If you want to know what, ask me. I will tell you.
